The Initiative
Building Hope, One Move at a Time
Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, dream, and grow in a safe and nurturing environment. Yet, for many children in Manipur, prolonged disruptions to everyday life have affected their education, emotional well-being, and the simple joys of childhood.
Project PeaceBoard is Pawns to Kings' commitment to bringing hope, learning, and resilience to these young minds through the transformative power of chess.
Launched on International Chess Day 2026, Project PeaceBoard aims to take chess education to children living in rehabilitation and relief centres, schools, and community learning spaces across all 16 districts of Manipur. More than introducing a game, the initiative seeks to create safe spaces where children can think, connect, rebuild confidence, and simply enjoy being children again.
The Purpose
Why Project PeaceBoard?
Chess is much more than a board game. It nurtures concentration, patience, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and emotional resilience—life skills that help children navigate challenges with confidence.
Project PeaceBoard uses chess as a medium to encourage learning, restore routine, foster meaningful engagement, and create opportunities for children to interact, collaborate, and grow in a positive environment.
Every chessboard becomes a PeaceBoard—a place where learning replaces uncertainty, confidence replaces fear, and hope takes the first move.
The Approach
Making Chess Accessible to Every Child
To ensure that language is never a barrier to learning, Pawns to Kings is expanding its innovative chess education resources to include Kuki and Meitei, alongside English, Hindi, Assamese, and other regional languages.
Through:
- Illustrated comic-style chess learning books.
- Animated video lessons.
- Interactive workshops.
- Community chess sessions
Children will be able to learn chess in a way that is engaging, inclusive, and easy to understand.

Project PeaceBoard envisions a future where every child in Manipur has access to meaningful learning opportunities that inspire curiosity, resilience, and hope.
By partnering with schools, child care institutions, rehabilitation and relief centres, community organisations, and local volunteers, Pawns to Kings aims to build a sustainable movement that reaches children across all 16 districts of Manipur.
Because every move on a chessboard teaches more than the game—it teaches children to think ahead, adapt to challenges, and believe that every new move brings a new possibility.
Our Mission
Creating Change Across 16 Districts
Reach children across 16 districts of Manipur through chess education.
Establish community-based PeaceBoards in schools, rehabilitation and relief centres, and child-friendly spaces.
Develop multilingual chess learning resources, including Kuki and Meitei, to make learning accessible to every child.
Promote critical thinking, emotional resilience, concentration, and confidence through chess.
Foster connection, inclusion, and hope by creating safe spaces where children can learn and grow together.
