Reimagining childhood—one move at a time. A movement to balance screen time with curiosity, creativity, and real connection.

In today's digital world, childhood should be about more than endless scrolling—it should be about curiosity, creativity, and the chance to think, learn, and grow.
Mobile phones, tablets, and social media occupy an ever-larger share of children's attention. While technology transforms how we learn and connect, excessive screen exposure worries parents, educators, and child-development experts alike.
That belief gave birth to From Screens to Squares—a nationwide awareness campaign encouraging children to balance screen time with activities that build focus, problem-solving, and family connection.
01Chapter 01
Pawns to Kings was founded by young changemakers Vihaan and Viraj with a mission to make chess accessible to every child, especially those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to learn the game.
What began as an effort to introduce underprivileged children to chess soon revealed another equally important challenge. While many children lacked access to learning opportunities, countless others were spending increasing amounts of time on screens, often at the cost of meaningful engagement, creativity, and real-world interaction.
Recognising this growing concern, the founders launched From Screens to Squares as a movement that provides children with meaningful and engaging alternatives to passive screen consumption.
02Chapter 02
From Screens to Squares is not about eliminating technology. It is about creating balance.
The campaign encourages children and families to dedicate time to activities that stimulate the mind, strengthen relationships, and foster personal growth. Through chess, children learn to think ahead, solve problems, make decisions, and develop patience and perseverance—skills that extend far beyond the chessboard.
More importantly, it creates opportunities for quality parent-child interaction and shared learning experiences in an increasingly digital world.
